We've
had movies that trade on a little girl's desire to grow up to be
cared for by a handsome prince, including The Princess Diaries,
Maid in Manhattan and other Cinderella stories that
pretend to have an up-to-date twist for the modern woman. We have
fashion designers exploiting women's desire for the glass slipper
with five inch heels that will trash the posture and disintegrate
the spine. The Princess Principle is
not part of this trend.
Full
of essays by eighteen women who share their hope, joy and expertise,
this is a book of inspiration. The title may attract the very woman
who needs it. It is an authentic inducement because our culture
has made the idea of being a princess a part of our psyches that
we might as well turn to our advantage.
The
editors, Jana L. High and Marilyn Sprague-Smith, M. Ed., have assembled
literate, well-educated women with different stories and different
angles on how we might improve ourselves and still live with-even
accept-what now may appear to be our natural urge to be a princess.
For these women, The Princess Principle
isn't about being rescued or prissing up to impress but about knowing,
internally, that we are beautiful and important in the ways that
count.
The
format of this book is rare among anthologies. It gives each contributor
full and complete billing, including her name on the front cover
and her picture on the back.
It
is also careful to list the credentials of each author, so the reader
has a sense of who each of them is. Some might even be a woman the
reader would consider as a coach or advisor in her real life whether
it's the life of a confident, new-age princess or someone who is
just learning to be one.
My
bet is that not one of the contributors is a princess in the traditional
sense and that every one of them is making her own way, happily
and with self assurance, in this big, bad, wonderful world.

Get
ready to be treated as royalty, for you are about to embark on The
Princess Principle: Women Helping Women Discover Their Royal Spirit.
Eighteen of America's prominent role-model women have bonded together
to share their true and inspirational stories on how they were able
to gain courage and strength to defy the obstacles that stand in
their pathway to success.
I elected to read this
book in the early morning hours when most of the city was still
asleep in their beds. These stories gave me the inspiration
to start each day with a fresh new perspective with a can-do attitude.
These remarkable ladies made me realize life is one big adventure
that deserves to be explored. Their revealing stories, told
with powerful heart-felt voices has the predominance to make any
individual strive to be their very best, and not settle for being
second. The stories these remarkable ladies shared warmed
my heart and brought tears to my eyes. More than once, I found
myself cheering when they beat their adversary.
The words of wisdom found
in this book, is the fountain of youth -- for it provides the knowledge
to get the maximum happiness out of like. After reading this
book, I hold each person who contributed to this book in high regards.
By them being able to bare their souls to reveal their inner most
challenges life has dealt them took a great deal of courage.
Books such as this offer a wealth of priceless information.
Readers will treasure it for years to come.

I
was looking for a new book to give to my wife whom was down in spirit
as our oldest left home after graduation. Well, I was impressed
with this book by Jana High and Marilyn Sprague-Smith.
I read it too, on advice from my better half. The Princess Principle
is a fresh interpretation on understanding and listening to one's
own values, personal worth and self esteem system. The authors left
me with clues and guidance on how to stay on top of the everyday
life journey and how to place the bigger picture in daily focus
through the road hazards ahead. I normally read astronomy and other
science books but this was a great change for me.

It
is about time a book like this has come along! It is filled with
humor, hope and inspiration. In particular, Jana High's story brings
home the importance of a good sense of humor in the midst of adversity.
I also related a great deal to Julie Burch's story of struggling
to be independent and learning to be happy with one's choices. I
highly recommend this book for a friend, a co-worker, a relative,
or yourself!

My
wife had this book and encouraged me to take a look. I did and was
most pleasantly surprised. Though the stories are all told by women,
the message of each applies equally to men. What one of us couldn't
identify with being confronted with a life or death situation and
finding the internal strength to survive or being mistreated by
a boss and finding the internal resources and imagination to overcome
and prosper. These might be women's stories but they contain eternal
truths and wisdom.

book to lift your spirit & soar! , February 28, 2003
This
book offers compelling insights that encourage you to see yourself
in the very best light. What's more is that it awakens the awareness
that each person deserves to be treated royally. Of course, that
is not about being pampered and pandered to, but rather, to live,
work and love in the world in ways that demonstrate your respect,
caring and competence!
Give
this book to every woman you know. This is an excellent book to
give to young women as well.

This
book is especially meaningful to me as one of the writers, Marilyn-Sprague
Smith, is a personal friend of mine. I have shared many of Marilyn's
struggles to succeed. Knowing her has enriched my life.
Even
though there are several stories of women within the book, it has
a 'wholeness' to it. I'm certain as the book is read by other women,
men, too, they will also identify with the struggles and successes
of these women.
The
book is uplifting and brings a sense of "I can succeed"
in whatever is set upon me. It truly does bring out the Royal Spirit
within oneself.

Women
for many years have felt isolated. Those that worked at home felt
they were different from those that worked outside the home and
vice versa. This insightful book, written by women of such varied
backgrounds and achievements shows us that all women have at one
time or the other experienced self-doubt, but we all have the same
potential and all are capable of achieving our goals. The Princess
Principal is a guide to enable women to become who they were meant
to be - to reach for and achieve their ultimate goals in life. Each
woman shares her unique life's experience with the reader. A real
PLUS to help every woman become all she can become. Thanks for offering
this fine book to the public!

This
is truly a book written by women for women!!!!!! After reading several
of the chapters, by the various contributors for this book, one
realizes that we are not alone in some or all of the feelings we
have. There are some difficult situations that can be overcome.
It is truly an awaking situation that it doesn't matter how much
education one has had, there still have been crosses to bear.
The book truly made me believe, that I know I AM A PRINCESS!!!!!
Thank you so much for the 18 women that contributed to making this
book a reality.

I can relate to many of the well-written stories and look forward
to sharing this book with my friends. The title is most certainly
intriguing, as well. Today, I took it with me to a solo lunch and
three gals stopped to ask me where they could buy it! I think they've
got a winner!

This
book is surprisingly refreshing in its openness about the universal
struggles associated with personal and professional development
in the real world. The authors opted to place a higher priority
on authenticity than on ego and, for that reason, their stories
resonate in a heart place. Here, written down so one can read and
re-read them and reflect on their multiple meanings, are quintessential
human stories seen through a feminine lens. These are the kinds
of stories your best friends tell you when you need encouragement
and sustenance along the way.

In
the beginning,I liked reading the individual chapters of each woman's
life. It felt like I wasn't reading but listening to someone sitting
right next to me. Their pictures gave me the visual tool, and their
courage and the process they shared connected me to them in a personal
way.
Towards completion I enjoyed not the separate but wholeness of all
their Royal Spirits integrated as one voice speaking.
Discover and share that part in yourself.
I'd like to thank all the women from across the states who took
the time to share their journey with me.
